Methana, the volcanic peninsula 

Located in the north-east coast of the Peloponnese and known since ancient times for their thermal springs, both the town of Methana and the entire peninsula is a more than worthy stop to include in your sailing itinerary.

Τhe Methana peninsula is an ideal nature lover's destination. You have the unique opportunity to hike up the volcanic slopes, through the pine forest, to enjoy the majestic Saronic Gulf view from its crater. Resting afterwards either at the two thermal facilities in Agioi Anargyroi and Agios Nikolaos, at the excellent fish taverns by the sea or the numerous picturesque villages that you'll find sprinkled around (such as Kameni Chora, Vathi, Palea Loutra, Kounoupitsa). Excellent fishing, fantastic swimming and every other water-related sport or activity are available here for those that have extra energy to burn. Make sure to have enough time to explore some of the other hidden treasures of the area, such as important archaeological sites and castles. 

 

Must-Visit Attractions in Methana

  • The now inactive volcano of Methana with its over thirty craters, the most famous of which is near the village "Kameni Chora". 
  • The ruins of the Acropolis of Ancient Methana on the hill of Paleokastro. The rest of the ancient settlement is lying on the bottom of the sea.
  • The pine-covered island of Agioi Anargyroi, with its organized beach and clear blue waters, that is connected to Methana through a narrow strip of land. 
  • The medieval Castle of Faviero with its trademark four small towers.
  • The 250 meters long Peristeri Cave, consisting of three chambers. It is considered one of the area's most famous natural attractions.
  • The Mycenaean settlement at the Hill of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni.

Sail and Swim

Swim at the crystal clear waters of the area's most well-known beaches such as Vathi, Almyra, Agios Georgios, Agios Nikolaos, Limnionas, Foflaka and Nissaki.

Ports & anchorages

Located in the Methana peninsula on the coast of Peloponnese, both picturesque Vathi and the actual port of Methana are off the beaten track anchorages worth exploring.
